Our Products

Since 1965 when I joined the carpenters union in Vista California, I have used all types of different framing materials to construct buildings. In California for example we used 4x header material and didn’t worry about twisting when drying out occurs. In Colorado on the other hand 2-2x are used with a ply flitch to prevent twisting in the header assembly.

Kiln dried material is preferable in the dryer climates for quality control of your sub strait conditions and to minimize shrinkage.

When I started out finger joint studs didn’t exist, now I find I prefer them when a non horizontal loading condition applies.

During my career in carpentry I’ve been a roof cutter a stair cutter a lay out man a pettybone operator. Things have improved considerably. Roof rafters have been replaced by roof trusses. Cut stairs by pre fabs and pettybones by Gradalls. All these advancements allow Westar Framing to advise our clients which approach may best serve their needs.

There have been great advancements in floor joisting; it’s no longer dble 2x12 @ 12”o.c for the 24’ floor span but the much lighter open web (which we prefer) and which in many cases eliminates the costly additions of drop ceilings for the MEP’S to run in.

Advances in exterior siding have been huge. I used Totem cedar; clear heart red wood, Ply sawn, T111, batt and board cedar and clapboard, all installed over 15# felt for waterproofing. Today we have vast variety of cementious Products to choose from. James Hardi is one of the most recognized names in our arsenal of suppliers and with good reason. 30-50 year warranties are hard to beat, couple that with tyvek and a third party inspector and you’re covered as to weatherization.

You do have options , let us help you to explore them.

In the rough framing stage the project can be done with Wall panels or stick frame. Westar uses both techniques depending on site conditions and the need of the developer. For Wall panels we have used company's such as 84 Lumber or Structural Component Systems.
